My name is Ms. Virdee, and I am a recent graduate of the University of Toronto Master of Teaching program, having specialized in the Junior-Intermediate stream with a Visual Arts teachable. On this e-portfolio site you will find lesson plans, workshops, reflections, research, and other similar content that illustrate my development and achievements as an educator. In addition to being a teacher, I also work as a freelance illustrator and sequential narrative artist, and my special interests include Social Justice Education and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy. I seek to share my passion for the arts in all my pedagogical work, especially through varied forms of interdisciplinary instruction and transformative art education. I hope you enjoy your time on my site, and find something that speaks to you.
My Teaching Philosophy
At the core of my teaching philosophy is a valuation of compassion, empathy, inclusivity, and a commitment to never stop the process of growing as an educator. To me, students are like different flowers in a garden, diverse in their individual needs, and beautiful when brought together in a caring environment where their distinct strengths are given the opportunity to shine. The practice of using assessment as learning, for learning, and of learning forms not only the foundation of the pedagogy I provide but also my ongoing development as an educator. It is my greatest hope to help every child and adolescent I instruct achieve their potential and learn new ways they can use their unique talents to contribute the complex and ever-changing world that surrounds them.
